Kihon (基本, きほん) is a Japanese term. It means "basics" or "fundamentals." It is used to refer to the basic techniques that are taught and practiced as the foundation of most Japanese martial arts.
In Karate Kihon includes blocks, strikes, punches, chops, kicks, and stances.
What will a person do by learning such incomplete karate where his basics are not strong?
Kihon is necessary to be mastered because without perfection in basics their is no point of learning karate.
Basics has to be made perfect. Perfection in basics will improve your kata and kumite. And if your basics are strong enough one attack for self defense is enough.
Their is belief that kihon should be practice only for few counts. No this is wrong . Kihon should be performed until perfection is achieved.
Practice but in correct way!!!
