In era where junk food and sedentary lifestyles are booming up, FITNESS has become essential part of everyone's life.
What is FITNESS? What should be criteria to know "we are fit or not"?
Definition of Fitness can't be taken as mentioned on Google, for everyone Fitness is different.
Having six packs abs is Fitness for some people, for some people it is EATING healthy food. For me Fitness is being Free from Diseases mentally as well as physically.
In our society, people are judged by their body type , the person whose body is not in shape , the one who looks fat is marked as "UnFit".
Above thing should not be the criteria to judge anyone, it is not the body shape, it is "percentage of fat" in body that defines you are fit or not. "Some percentage of fat" signifies presence of "Bad Cholesterol", that bad cholesterol is responsible for many diseases, including heart diseases.
Before joining Gym , Yoga or any other fitness class , ask yourself what is FITNESS for you ?.......ask yourself the outcome you want and than join.
Some People are fit by just EATING Healthy food, from the word "healthy" i mean- NO JUNK , NO OUTSIDE FOOD..
Diet is definitely the crucial factor for being healthy. Just morning walk + Healthy food , will keep you fit.
If you want lean body with lit bit muscles then gym is essential for that. You can not build muscle from Yoga, yoga increases your flexibility and has other benefits.
It is very essential for one to observe how food impacts on their body. The food benefiting someone , may not benefit you.
For example- you may be lacking protein but you are just in taking high fiber food, in taking high fiber won't help in minimizing protein deficiency.
That's why study about your body by observing impact of every food as well as list out deficiencies in your body.
I had asked supporters of @_shotokan_karate_ and @nidhi_thekaratenerd Page "what is fitness for them?", here are the few responses:
"Fitness for me is moving spiritually and physically. One can be spiritually fit as well as physically. And once those two align, you automatically start to see things differently. Being 37 years and starting karate at my age, starting to compete in strongman competitions, starting to lift weights- it's a challenge. The mind isn't as fresh as it when you're a child. You're filled with bad habits (all kinds) that prevent you from doing things that can get you to another level. So fitness for a large person or an athletic person is different, as long as you're moving and you've changed your mindset and have at least 1 goal from the ones you've set, you're on your way to being the fittest you've ever been. Fit for me isn't defined by athletic ability or by physical strength, fit for me means that you're able to do some form of exercise or spiritually aligned meditation. Yoga combines both and I love that"
"I've found that once you're spiritually fitter than you were yesterday and with practice, it keeps getting better; your mindset shifts and then you want to achieve things physically. The mental state is powerful. When you start achieving small goals physically, you tend to shift your focus also on nutrition.... and then suddenly your whole life changes. Your work ethic improves, you become better, fitter and happier."

"For me as a student fitness is my mental and physical wellness, And balancing academic, social, spiritual and physical wellbeing. For me in particular this means studying consistently but also finding time to spend with friends as well as going to temple every Sunday. And of course going to the gym regularly and training and going to yoga "
